Career Highlights:
Dr. Graves is recognized nationally as a distinguished concert artist and teacher of piano. She has performed as a soloist and collaborative artist across the globe and is the pianist in the acclaimed Sapphire Trio. She was inducted into the Steinway Piano Teacher Hall of Fame in New York, has presented at numerous state and national conferences, and served as a Cultural Ambassador for the U.S. State Department in the Middle East. Dr. Graves is especially interested in creating unique and engaging ways to foster a collaborative experience between artist and listener and is dedicated to maintaining the life of music in our culture.

I use Zoom, Canvas and text.
What do you want your students to take away from class?
I want them to gain a deeper understanding regarding the purpose and intention of teaching and performing music in our culture. I want them to learn new ways to be creative and innovative in programming.
What is the value of an advanced degree in today’s work environment?
Opportunities to direct programs, facilitate community engagement between the school and area organizations, and to be a leader in the arts within the region open up when one has an advanced degree.
What advice would you give to your online students?
Employ your self-direction, engage as much as possible through all available avenues, be creative and bring your energy and innovation to every discussion.
Why did you start teaching?
I started teaching at the age of eleven because everyone deserves the opportunity to study and play music, regardless of their status, income or ability. Music is the center point of our culture, not an "extra-curricular activity." We need it as a substantive part of our wellness and to thrive as human beings.

What do you do when you need a laugh?
I like to go to dinner with friends.
