The admission process for the online MA – History is simple and streamlined. You can get started right away, without taking time away from your professional or personal commitments.

Admission Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Official transcript from degree-granting university

Online MA – History Admission Requirements

  • Anyone with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is welcome to apply
  • Applicants with degrees in history, political science, English, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, social studies or secondary education with a GPA of at least 3.0 are admitted automatically
  • Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in other disciplines or with a GPA less than 3.0 must submit a short statement of purpose describing how they are prepared for the rigors of a graduate degree in history
  • Official transcript from the college/university where degree was earned
  • Professional resume

  • Most EWU graduate programs only require one transcript. Please submit a transcript from your degree-granting institution. This transcript should include the final two years of your degree completion. If it does not, please submit transcripts to cover your final two years of earned credits.

Research using regional public and private collections to prepare both the general historian and the urban and regional planner for service in the fields of local history museology, and historic preservation. Required of students in public history field.

Portfolio and Professional Development for Historians helps students build a professional portfolio and reinforces vital skills they will use throughout their careers. Students will polish work they have done in previous courses to make it publishable. Students will also learn how to craft a curriculum vita, draft a conference or book proposal, and how to find and apply for jobs in historical fields.
Transfer students in need of additional credit hours have the option to complete a one credit hour independent study course.

This independent study course requires students to consult with a professor, submit preliminary assignments and produce a publication-quality historiographical essay. Students will find and read historiographical essays, select a research topic and problem that has been addressed by multiple historians, and infer how their conclusions agree, disagree, or qualify one another.
