In what ways do you connect with online students?

I stay in touch with my students through email, short video communications, regular and constructive feedback on various assignments in each module, and personal responses to regular student journals.

What do you want your students to take away from class?

Students can expect to develop new approaches and ways of thinking in their profession, to achieve familiarity with current literature in the field, to acquire advanced skillsets, and to find renewed energy and inspiration.

What is the value of an advanced degree in today’s work environment?

An advanced degree offers graduates the potential for exceptional achievement in their professions as leaders and models of excellence.

What advice would you give to your online students?

To achieve the most of online learning, students should schedule sufficient hours each week to be successful, begin working on assignments long before they are due, give 100% attention to the materials and assignments when they are working on them, ask questions of the instructor when you are unsure of anything, and be supportive of classmates to foster a warm and collegial environment.

Why did you start teaching?

I started teaching because I was passionate about music and sharing the joy of music with others.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

Nelson Mandela's “Long Walk to Freedom.”

What do you do when you need a laugh?

I like to phone my best friend from childhood.

I was born in South Africa and lived there until 2020, when I immigrated to the USA, becoming a U.S. citizen some years later.
