Gain the skills you need to teach at the college level in a wide variety of settings with the Eastern Washington University Certificate in College Instruction online. This unique certificate program is designed to expand your opportunities instructing adult students in college, corporate or military settings. Coursework can be completed online in as few as 12 months. Coupled with a supervised teaching internship, this program gives you a thorough understanding of several strategies and techniques for teaching adults.

In the program, you will augment your repertoire of post-secondary teaching practices to enhance active learning, gain valuable field experience and hone your command of APA style while completing a variety of research and writing assignments. Potential roles for graduates include:

Coursework in this certificate program can be applied to the M.Ed. in Adult Education online degree program for an accelerated completion time.

Admissions

As an applicant for the College Instruction Certificate online program, you must hold a bachelor's degree in Education or a related field and have three years of work experience at the completion of this program completion.

Focuses on the role and purpose of adult and higher education through a study of educational issues. Students will develop a personal philosophy of adult and higher education. Special attention is given to the role of the two-year community college.

A study of teaching-learning processes suitable for adult education, plus analysis of the educational theories from which they derive.

Duration: 6 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Supervised training in various teaching strategies for large-group, small-group, and individualized instruction.

Duration: 6 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 2

Teaching under supervision at a two-year or four-year college, or other appropriate institution. Includes regular instructional responsibilities and additional planned experience.

Continuation of Adult Education Internship I. Teaching under supervision at a two-year or four-year college, or other appropriate institution. Includes regular instructional responsibilities and additional planned experience.
