Working professionals who want to advance their careers by earning a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree face the challenge of trying to fit the demands of graduate education into their already busy lives. Eastern Washington University (EWU) now makes it affordable, accessible and flexible by offering multiple accredited different M.Ed. degree programs online for educators and aspiring leaders.

With EWU online M.Ed. programs, students can choose the path that best fits their personal and professional goals. There are seven start dates each year. All coursework is available online in a flexible format, so students have access 24/7, allowing them to work toward their graduate degree on it when it is convenient.

1. Online Master of Education in Early Childhood Education Program: Building Teaching Excellence

The Master of Education in Early Childhood Education online program covers a range of topics. These include the science of early childhood development, positive learning environments for children, educational leadership, policy, family systems and engagement.

Aligned with standards put forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the graduate education curriculum reflects current evidence-based practices for working with children from birth through age 8 and their families. Students develop expertise in designing developmentally appropriate curricula and implementing research-based instructional methods for young learners.

2. Online Master of Education in Literacy Program: Advance Your Teaching Career

The online M.Ed. in Literacy develops the skills educators and teachers need to boost student literacy and reading achievement. Literacy is critical for academic success. Teachers working with P-12 students need the knowledge and skills to support their students’ diverse needs.

Certified Washington educators can earn a P-12 reading endorsement on their teaching certificate. Graduates of this graduate education program can choose from a number of career roles, including reading specialist, title 1 specialist, district reading curriculum specialist or classroom teacher with enhanced skills in literacy instruction.

3. Online Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction Program: Instructional Leadership Development

Students who complete the M. Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction online program understand how to develop curriculum aligned with regulatory standards and evolving educational trends. They also learn to refine instructional strategies and prepare for educational leadership roles such as instructional coach or curriculum personnel.

Completing this graduate program prepares students to serve as lead teachers in the classroom or outside the classroom in building-level positions that involve curriculum planning or instructional design. This advanced training positions educators to lead professional development initiatives, mentor fellow teachers and drive instructional innovation across their schools or districts.

4. Online Master of Education in Adult Education Program: Prepare for Higher Education Roles

The online M.Ed. in Adult Education prepares educators for assessment and classroom management as they pertain to adult learners in postsecondary education settings. Graduates of the program may work with adults in graduate educational settings such as community colleges, vocational programs, GED programs, adult basic skills programs, in-service coordination in corporate and non-profit settings, military training and more.

5. Online Master of Education in Educational Leadership Program: Advance to School Leadership Positions

EWU’s M.Ed. in Educational Leadership online program prepares candidates for school leadership positions such as department head, mentor and instructional curriculum coach. Based on state and national standards, the graduate program covers best practices in educational leadership, management and school administration.

Note: This program does not satisfy the requirements of the Washington State Department of Public Instruction for a school principal certificate. Completing an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification (below) enables candidates to earn that credential as well.

6. Online Master of Education in Educational Leadership, Principal Certification Program: Become a School Principal

Through the online M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, Principal Certification, educators gain the education leadership knowledge and practical experience they need to assume the role of principal or a variety of other school administrative positions in public schools. They are also prepared to earn principal certification and advance their teaching careers.
